Skills and Abilities
I bring strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone, style and content for different audiences and platforms. Throughout my career, I have produced a wide range of communications including press releases, website content, social media campaigns, reports and internal updates, always tailoring messaging to ensure clarity and engagement. For example, I have translated complex or sensitive issues—such as the cost-of-living crisis—into accessible, human-centred stories that resonate with both the media and the communities we support. I am equally confident presenting in meetings, delivering workshops, and advising colleagues, ensuring messages are communicated clearly, concisely and with impact.
I have strong editorial judgement and experience in commissioning, shaping and quality-assuring content to a high standard. At Foothold Cymru, I led on developing a story-led content approach as part of the organisation’s rebrand, ensuring all communications were consistent, accessible and reflective of the communities served. I regularly review and edit content produced by colleagues, providing constructive feedback to maintain quality and consistency. My approach combines creativity with attention to detail, ensuring content is both engaging and aligned with organisational values and objectives.
As a strategic thinker, I am experienced in translating organisational vision and values into practical communications activity. I have developed communications plans that align with wider organisational goals and ensure consistent messaging across all channels. For example, the rebrand at Foothold Cymru required taking a broad organisational vision and embedding it into day-to-day communications—from website content and social media to printed materials and stakeholder engagement. I am confident balancing long-term strategy with the practical delivery needed to bring communications plans to life.
I am highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholders simultaneously. In previous roles, I have overseen a wide range of communications activity, often balancing campaign delivery, media engagement, content creation and internal communications at the same time. For example, I have coordinated communications for events while managing ongoing digital content and responding to media opportunities, ensuring all activity is delivered to a high standard and within deadlines. I am comfortable working in fast-paced environments and adapting to changing priorities where required.
I am confident and credible in working with senior leaders, as well as a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, partners and community groups. I have experience advising senior staff on messaging and communications approaches, ensuring alignment with organisational values while also providing constructive challenge where needed. I approach these relationships with professionalism and clarity, building trust while ensuring communications are effective and appropriate for the intended audience.
Finally, I am able to work both independently and collaboratively within complex organisations. I am comfortable taking ownership of projects and delivering work autonomously, while also recognising the importance of collaboration in achieving the best outcomes. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with colleagues across different teams and functions, as well as external partners and stakeholders, to deliver integrated communications activity. I value open communication and teamwork, and I am committed to contributing positively to organisational culture.
